I am a professional of all things that contain alcohol.
Now admittedly I’ve never actually had formal education on the matter, but I consider myself an aficionado nonetheless. With Erica, I’ve been to breweries from Atlanta to St. Louis. Wineries from Napa Valley to champagne houses in Reims. Distilleries from Tennessee to the cognac houses in France. So when it comes wine, beer and spirits, I’ve had my share of experiences.
So imagine my surprise when Erica brought home a bottle of wine that was delightfully unlike anything I’ve ever had before: Spodee Wine.
The great thing about this wine is that it is fortified with moonshine! So it has the smoothness of wine with the added kick of liquor (not so much so that it cannot be sipped without mixing). Though they have a red wine version, we sampled the white one. And though it tastes like a summertime drink because of the coconut notes, you can sip on this all year round.
While I prefer to have mine chilled and straight, I was urged by Erica to make a cocktail of it. Here’s what I came up with: 2 parts Spodee White, 1 part Malibu Coconut Liqueur, 1 part fresh grapefruit juice. Combine all ingredients in a shaker and with ice, and add a splash of pineapple juice after you’ve put the mixture in your glass. Garnish with a piece of grapefruit.
This concoction wasn’t entirely my idea, it’s a more potent (read: better) take on their “Spodee Coconut Breeze” cocktail recipe. Nevertheless it is delicious, refreshing, and different.
Lucky for us, they sell this online and in stores in Georgia. We heard the red wine is great, so we’ll be on the lookout for that! Have you tried Spodee White?
Disclosure: Though we were provided a free bottle of Spodee White, this review and our opinions are 100 percent ours.
